Gleaning Collective (LM-Dawn class)

commerce pace layer · 1986–ongoing

lifespan: 300 yrs

Class card for LM-Dawn organized gleaning and food-recovery collectives that reclaim post-harvest, post-retail, and post-consumer food waste as community provisioning — a direct bug→feature inversion of the MM/DM food-system's structural 33% food-waste byproduct (UN FAO 2011/2022; ~1.3Bt/yr globally). Three sub-families: (1) field gleaning networks (Boston Area Gleaners 1986+, ~1M lb/yr recovered; Gleaning Network UK / Feedback Global 2012+, ~1.5M lb/yr by 2024; Gleaning Network EU); (2) urban food recovery (DC Central Kitchen 1989+; Food Not Bombs 1980+; ReFED 2015+; freegan practice 1990s+); (3) surplus-redistribution platforms bridging DM and LM (Olio app UK 2015+; Too Good To Go DK 2015+; Falling Fruit open-source urban fruit-tree mapping falling.io 2013+). Gleaning has deep MM-Dusk customary-law roots: Leviticus 19:9-10 originates the right; Millet's "Les Glaneuses" 1857 records it as MM-Day folk practice; Code Napoléon 1804 Articles 1-2 du Code Rural legally recognized the droit de glanage (right of the poor to collect what harvesters left behind). The LM-Dawn revival transforms this MM "right of the poor" into an LM commons-recovery protocol: structured gleaning events, volunteer coordination, food-bank partnerships, open-data urban fruit maps, and surplus-food apps. Inverter mechanic: MM/DM structural bugs (production-distribution decoupling, expiration-date conservatism sell-by vs. use-by confusion, USDA Grade A cosmetic culling, cold-chain break losses, single-buyer contract power asymmetries) produce 1.3Bt/yr food waste → LM gleaning collectives treat this as substrate, not bug. Key LM signatures: liveness_temporal_coupling HIGH (gleaning is perishable- clock-driven); capture_resistance_index MEDIUM (community-run networks resist; corporate platforms co-opt); proletarianization_risk LOW-MEDIUM (embodied gleaning competence is widely distributed across cultures); pace_layer=commerce primary (displacing food-economy waste logic), culture secondary (reviving gleaning ethos). All quantitative state- variable values are [EXTRAP]; framing is [CANON-concept] per Wave-6 framework-native-generators §2 bug→feature inverter and MM customary-law sources. [CANON-framing; EXTRAP-LM-values]
