Class card for the LM-Dawn coordination form in which distributed voluntary contributors produce public-goods software under open licenses. Outputs are non-rivalrous and non-excludable: any actor may read, run, modify, and redistribute source code subject only to license terms. No single owner; no extrinsic telos of Progress drives production (motor=null). Canonical instances: Linux kernel (1991, see DM-Day class card on disk for richer notes), Python/PyPI ecosystem (1991/2003), npm registry (2010), Apache Software Foundation umbrella (1999), Mozilla Foundation (1998), Free Software Foundation (1985). Distinguishing features versus DM-Day platforms: (1) motor is absent — contributors aggregate by intrinsic motivation, peer recognition, and civic/ideological commitment rather than flywheel incentive structures; (2) outputs are public goods at zero marginal cost; (3) copyleft licensing (GPL, AGPL) makes capture-resistance structurally enforced, not managerially contingent — any proprietarization of a GPL codebase requires a fork and fork is freely available to any actor; (4) governance is meritocratic- distributed (LKML patch acceptance, npm publish authority, Python PEPs), not shareholder-accountable. LM-Dawn framing: open-source represents a Liveness-Machine coordination pattern in which the commons-production logic exceeds the Divergence Machine's market-extraction framing. The LM-class view sees the ecosystem not as a DM-Day software supply chain (that is the DM card's frame) but as an emergent public-goods institution whose structure resists capture, commodification, and excludability. Proletarianization risk is MEDIUM: the inscribed technical artifacts (codebases, git history, dependency graphs) persist even when living maintainer competence thins — npm-leftpad (2016), OpenSSL-Heartbleed (2014), Log4Shell (2021), and xz-utils (2024) are all proletarianization-proximity signals: artifact persists, competence re-internalization lags.
